Beautiful & Unique
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13-14).
Have you ever seen tiny, detailed snowflakes up close? Their beauty is truly awe-inspiring!
I don’t know about you, but we sure have been getting a lot of snow here in Michigan. . . like a lot. It’s amazing to stop and think about how many individual snowflakes are necessary to cover the entire ground. What’s more amazing is considering how each and every snowflake is so beautiful and unique.
As amazing as every snowflake is, they cannot compare with how wonderfully God made you! Yes, I’m talking about you!
God intricately wove you together inside your mother’s womb. He carefully crafted the shape of your smile, the shade of your eyes, the texture of your hair, and the tone of your skin. He is the master Artist! Even the sound of your laughter was specially created by God. You, my friend, are God’s masterpiece—even more special than the breathtakingly beautiful snowflakes that God so lovingly designs.
I challenge you to read the words of Psalm 139:14-15 aloud over yourself and the girl(s) in your life today: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13-14).
It’s true, you are God’s special creation—made on purpose, and for the purpose of bringing Him praise! You reflect His very image to the watching world (Gen. 1:27). You are His masterpiece (Eph. 2:10). There is only one of you. There is only one of me.
I get it. Sometimes, believing that we’re unique and beautiful—designed on purpose by God—can be difficult to believe, especially on days when the mirror, our own thoughts, or others’ hurtful words try to tell us otherwise. The truth is, in those moments, we have a choice, friend. Will we choose to believe who God says we are— “fearfully and wonderfully made” or not? Why not take our trustworthy God’s word for it?
When God looks at you, and when God looks at me, He sees His precious masterpiece. Oh, how LOVED we are!
Pause & Reflect:
- If we really believed we were “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God (Psalm 139:14), how would this impact how we view ourselves? Others?
- How can we speak differently to ourselves (and others), knowing God has beautifully and uniquely created every one of us for His praise?
- Who do you know that could use this reminder today from Psalm 139:14? How can you share this with him/her today?
Let’s pray:
Dear God, thank You for creating us so beautifully and uniquely. You are the master Artist! Please forgive us for being so quick to point out our flaws rather than to praise You for Your thoughtful design. Help us to reflect Your praise and creativity to others as Your image-bearers. In moments when we’re tempted to believe lies about ourselves and others, remind us of our worth in You as Your created people. We love You! In Jesus’s name, amen.
