What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do

As you look toward 2021, what crossroads are you facing as a mentor or ministry leader? Whether your decisions are big, small, or new—something you’ve never faced before, you’re not alone.

Here are five simple steps you can do when you don’t know what to do.

1. Pray.

Open God’s Word and look for His hand. Ask Him to shine a light on your path and affirm His leading in your spirit. He gives wisdom to those who ask (James 1:5).

2. Journal.

Write out the pros and cons. Then ask guiding questions like, “Does this align with God’s Word? What is my Kingdom assignment? What am I most passionate about?”

3. Seek godly counsel.

Turn to a small group of godly friends who will tell you what you need to hear, instead of what you want to hear. Ask them to pray with you and for you. Where do they sense God’s leading?

4. Follow Where God Leads.

Choose to trust and obey, step by step. It may take courage and strength to follow His counsel, but His loving eye will be on you (Psalm 32:8).

5. Take the next right step.

When the big picture of where this decision will lead is overwhelming, we can get stuck and do nothing. Today simply take the next right step. Make the phone call. Pay the bill. Do the next right thing.

God meets you at your crossroads and bends His ear as you seek His face. He is Wisdom and the Way Maker, and you are LOVED.
