Frosty Nail Art

By AJ Smit

Anytime is a great time to take care of your hands. Try this easy nail art. It’s cool in more ways than one!

An easy way to relax while you do your nails is to set up your space! Clear off your table, light a candle, or ask a grown-up to help you light one, and play your favorite music. Setting up the area to be chill and calming will help you stress less, and will make doing nails a lot more fun.

You also want to make sure your hands are clean and fresh before you begin painting. Remove any nail polish you already have on your fingers before you begin. Then, use a sugar scrub to clean your hands and make them soft.

If you don’t have sugar scrub at home, an easy recipe is 1 spoonful of oil (coconut or olive) and 1 spoonful of sugar (brown or white). Mix these two ingredients together, and rub your hands with the scrub for one minute. Then, wash off the scrub with soap and water for fresh, clean skin. Scrubbing off dead cells helps keep your skin happy and healthy, so that your skin is soft no matter the temperature outside!

What You Need

  • Royal blue, or dark blue nail polish
  • Light blue nail polish
  • Sparkle nail polish
  • Small sponge, or small paint brush

Optional

  • Sugar scrub (olive or coconut oil and sugar)
  • White nail polish
  • Toothpick

Directions

  1. Paint a single layer base coat of the darker blue nail polish. Use strokes going from the bottom of your nail to the tip. Only go in one direction to give your nail a smooth look.
  2. After your base coat is dry, paint a little of the light blue nail polish onto a sponge. While the polish is still wet, dab your sponge onto the top half of your nail. This should give an ombre effect of dark to lighter blue. If there is too much of the light blue, use a different part of the sponge to dab your nail and lighten the amount of paint.

  3. To match your sparkling personality, paint with glitter polish on top after the light blue has dried!

Optional snowflake: Dip a toothpick into the white nail polish and draw a small “t” on your nail. Use the toothpick to draw a tiny “v” on each line facing outward. You can do this while the nail polish is still wet by pulling the “v” lines from the “t” shape you made. Finish with tiny dots at the end and middle of each line.
