Squeeze Away Stress

If you like doing things with your hands, try making this easy stress ball. Squeezing it when you need to relax will distract your mind and help you focus on the rhythm of squeezing and releasing the ball.

What You Need

  • Plastic water bottle
  • 1/2 cup (64 grams) flour
  • Balloon
  • Funnel
  • Pencil

Directions

  1. Put the funnel on top of the plastic water bottle. If you don’t have a funnel, you can make one out of paper.
  2. Pour flour into the funnel, using the pencil to poke the flour into the water bottle. Keep going until all the flour is in the water bottle. Set the funnel aside.
  3. Take out your balloon and blow it up a little. It doesn’t have to be very big.
  4. Pinch the balloon’s opening to hold in the air, but don’t tie it yet. Carefully fit the opening of the balloon over the top of the water bottle. When you let go of the balloon, it should stay filled with air.
  5. Tip over the water bottle to fill the balloon with flour. You might have to squeeze and shake the water bottle to get all the flour out.
  6. Carefully pinch the balloon to hold in the air, and remove the water bottle from the balloon. Slowly let the air out of the balloon until it’s only filled with flour. *Go slowly! If you let the air out too fast, the flour will come out, too.
  7. Tie the opening of the balloon or ask an adult to help you. Your stress ball should be super squishy.
