Universe Umbrella or Galaxy Hat

On a clear night, go outside and look at the sky. How many stars can you see? Can you point out any constellations, or satellites? How big does the sky look from where you are?

When God made the universe, He filled it with billions of stars. We are only one small planet in a huge galaxy, called the Milky Way, and that’s just one galaxy in the whole universe. You are the tiniest dot on earth, which is the tiniest dot in the Milky Way, which is the tiniest dot in the universe. Kind of makes you feel smaller than an ant, doesn’t it?

But here’s the amazing part. God created skies full of stars that He knows by name (Psalm 147:4), and still He wants YOU. Out of the entire universe, you are His favorite creation. No one’s love can compare to a love like that.

Remind yourself of God’s amazing love this month with these fun galaxy crafts. Never forget that you are worth more than billions of stars!

What You Need

  • Black umbrella or plain black hat (can be found at craft stores)
  • White, pink, blue, and yellow acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Sponge

Directions

  1. Open your umbrella or grab your black hat. You’ll be painting on the inside of the umbrella, so make sure you have enough space to paint.
  2. Use your sponge to lightly add swirls of pink and blue to your umbrella or hat. These are your galaxies.
  3. Add dots of white and yellow for stars and planets. If you want, you can do a few diamond shapes for stars.
  4. Let dry before using outside.
